HYDROTHERAPY

At Reach Allied Health, hydrotherapy forms an integral part of the treatment plan for many of our patients. Exercising while being supported by water typically allows for greater mobility and the ability to perform a higher intensity of exercise with more comfort.

Hydrotherapy is an excellent option for pain management. The pool we use is heated, which typically reduces pain. Additionally, the buoyancy that water provides takes pressure off the joints (especially knees and hips). When your body is submerged in water, hydrostatic pressure from the water surrounding your body drives circulation. This helps reduce inflammation which can contribute to reducing pain as well as improving conditions that limit circulation such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and other neurological conditions.

Hydrotherapy can be instrumental in helping regain movement. Exercise in the pool is typically easier and less likely to aggravate pain. For those who are wheelchair bound or require a mobility aid, they often discover freedom that they do not have on land. The hydrotherapy pool has ramp access for those who require it.

Falls prevention programs are generally safer in the pool as the water gives you more reaction time to recover your balance to save a fall. In the unlikely event a fall still occurs, injuries are uncommon.

The benefits of hydrotherapy include:

- Easier movement -

- Increased range of motion -

- Improved mobility -

- Reduced pain -

- Increased circulation -

- Reduced sedentary activity -
